From Max-EuP 2012

First published in 2012, the Max Planck Encyclopedia was edited by the Institute’s Directors at the time: Jürgen Basedow, Reinhard Zimmermann, and Klaus J Hopt. Its preparation was supervised by Andreas Stier, building on its German predecessor, the Handwörterbuch des Europäischen Privatrechts. The authors were current or former members of the Institute's academic staff, supplemented by external authors associated with the Institute. Together with the 120-plus authors, a multi-member editorial team prepared the material for the print edition in the form of encyclopedic keyword entries.

For the second publication as Max-EuP 2012, the original data was converted in 2021 with use of MediaWiki software by a technical team made up from the Institute's editorial department. This editing process did not involve any updating or revision of the existing text’s content.
